Associate Professor in European Archaeology, Australian National University

I'm an archaeologist with specialist knowledge of European later prehistory and material culture studies. I study how we make sense of the fragmented archaeological record and draw from it stories of ancient society. Some of my work looks at objects, people and the sometimes fuzzy boundaries between them. I'm especially interested in innovation--why and how people do (or do not!) take up new practices, technologies or ideologies. I also explore how we use new techniques like ancient DNA to build narratives of relation, kinship and social structure in the deep past.
